Sunshine Coast Health Centre, a Leading Drug, Alcohol, PTSD, and Trauma Treatment Centre in BC Canada, Announces Reboot of ‘Sober Sports’ Program

June 29, 2022  –  Vancouver, BC

Sunshine Coast Health Centre, a top-rated Canadian drug rehab, alcohol treatment, and trauma / PTSD treatment program for men at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/, is proud to announce the reboot of their popular ‘Sober Sports’ program. The program is part of the robust alumni program that aims to help clients solidify healthy behaviours that they learn after drug rehabilitation, alcohol treatment, and/or trauma or PTSD therapy in the residential program located in Powell River, BC, Canada.

“Sports and physical activity are key components of our methodology,” explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. “We are overjoyed to announce the reboot of our ‘Sober Sports’ program, which has been immensely popular with alumni. The program allows like-minded individuals to come together, focusing on hockey on Wednesdays. Beyond that, we are also offering a Sunday evening support meeting as well as other sports activities such as softball, hikes, frisbee golf, and other key sports from Sunday to Thursday every week starting this month.”

A good article explaining the philosophy of “Sober Sports” can be found athttps://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/the-impact-of-sober-sports-on-the-four-pillars-of-wellness/. That post explains that the ‘Sober Sports’ program brings together people who battle substance use issues as well as those who don’t to foster a community of like-minded people who are interested in the many benefits of sport and recreation in a substance-free environment. The obvious social benefits are for those in recovery to connect themselves with healthy positive people with whom they can then develop relationships. In the other direction, the impact of the integration of “regular” folks into the program allows for the deconstruction of the many stigmas, myths, and misconceptions that surround those suffering from substance abuse/misuse issues.

Those seeking to understand the Centre’s Methodology (which is a non-12 step and based on the logotherapy of Viktor Frankl) are encouraged to read the “approach” page at https://www.sunshinecoasthealthcentre.ca/our-approach/. Finally, as the Centre is exclusively focused on males, it should be noted that a parallel Centre called, Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic (https://georgiastraitwomensclinic.ca/), offers best-in-class therapy and treatment options for women, also in Powell River, British Columbia Canada).
