Indigenous Accommodations

At Sunshine Coast Health Centre, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and culturally inclusive environment for Indigenous clients. We have supported many individuals referred by their Nations, as well as Indigenous active-duty military members, veterans, and workers. Our approach follows Accreditation Canada (AC) standards on Indigenous health and wellness, as outlined in Qmentum Global for Indigenous Health and Wellness and the British Columbia Cultural Safety and Humility Standard.

Our Commitment

Indigenous client accommodations include, but are not limited to:
  • Cultural safety and humility in all aspects of care
  • Dedicated Indigenous Support Person
  • Inclusive, collaborative service delivery that respects Indigenous perspectives and individual needs
  • Safe treatment practices informed by cultural awareness
  • Leadership practices that reflect accountability and respect

Cultural and Spiritual Practices

We honour the importance of cultural and spiritual traditions in healing. During their treatment stay, Indigenous clients have access to practices such as smudging, spiritual water bathing, and other spiritual supports. We also maintain a long-standing, informal relationship with elders from the Tla’amin Nation, located just north of Powell River, who support Indigenous clients through cultural guidance and connection.
