As Black Friday overtakes American Thanksgiving in popularity, it seems that we are all partially responsible for promoting unhealthy attachments to external pleasures such as the must-have consumer item. A video taken on Black Friday at Wal-Mart is a perfect example:

At Sunshine Coast Health Center, even though the primary addiction we treat is chemical dependency, we pay attention to other addictions since many of our clients often fall into the trap of ‘cross-addictions’ or switching to, say, gambling, television or shopping. Remember Psychology 101 and the ‘nature vs. nurture’ debate? It seems that when it comes to what influences human behaviour we all, collectively, play a part.
