Edmonton Methadone Maintenance Therapy
Important! If a resident of Alberta is considering methadone for the first time or is currently on a methadone program outside of Alberta and is moving/temporarily locating to the province of Alberta, that individual must first meet with and addiction medicine specialist at one of the Methadone Clinics below. The addiction medicine specialist at the methadone clinic will then refer the individual to the nearest physician licensed to prescribe methadone. At this time, no list of Alberta-based methadone prescribing physicians is available to the public. For more information visit the Alberta Health Services Opioid Dependency Program website.

EDMONTON - YOUTH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
Please note that Alberta has Protection of Children Abusing Drugs (PChAD) Program: Protective Safe House Assessment and Detoxification (Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary). This program allows parents/guardians to apply for a court appointed apprehension and confinement order if their child’s use of alcohol/drugs is likely to cause significant psychological or physical harm to themselves or others. This order would permit a child to be taken to a protective safe house to begin detoxification, allow counsellors to assess the child and offer treatment recommendations to follow once he has been discharged from the program. An addiction counsellor will help children and families find the best treatment match for their needs, and will help put together an individualized treatment plan that best suits a particular child and family. For more information and to find an addiction services office near you, please call the 24-hour Helpline at 1-866-332-2322 (Alberta only).
